General Tao Chicken
General Tao (His last name is actually Zuo) a famous Hunnanese general and a war hero, Zuo Zongtang (Tso Tsung Tao) at the end of Qing Dynasty. Chef Chang-kuei Peng, a chef from Hunan Province, created General Tao Chicken in Taiwan in 1955. The invention has many different versions of tales but no one knows today what is the real one. After he started his restaurant in Manhattan, New York City in 1973, this sticky-sweet meal became the most popular meal in Chinese restaurants in the United States today but cannot be found anywhere in China.
